Welcome to the FPD counselor's corner blog. This site is designed to keep parents, students, and teachers informed of what is happening in the Counselor's Corner at First Presbyterian Day School. Newsletters, special events, class visits, and group sessions will be posted. I look forwarded to hearing from my FPD family.

Happy January! This month Counselor Causey is visiting the first grade classrooms with her favorite lesson, Rainbow Fish. The students love to hear about the most beautiful fish in the whole entire ocean, who did not have any friends because he was too proud and unwilling to share his shimmering scales. Of course toward the end he learns that by sharing he finds friendship and happiness. After listening to the story, the students decorate their own fish with colorful scales and three sparkling scale stickers which Counselor Causey gives them. They are asked at the end to share one of their scales with Counselor Causey and to place it on her large Rainbow Fish. It is heart warming to see the initial look of reluctance and then the joyful sharing that the students learn brings them happiness. The large fish is then given to the class as a reminder of the gift of sharing of yourself with others.
In second grade we are learning about the benefits and value of discipline in all areas as we learn what is required to set goals and keep them.
Third graders play a game about time, talents, giving, and service.
Fourth graders will be studying the importance of honesty and integrity and fifth graders  about the importance of "taming the tongue" and how to deal with gossip and rumors.
The foundation of each class is to learn to "love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength," and to "love your neighbor as yourself."
